About/Ministries

Who We Are

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ, and commitment to social involvement.
“The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”—Mark 10:45
At Youth For Christ, we wholeheartedly embrace the “and” of Mark 10:45. Jesus came to serve and to deliver the message of transformation. He came to embrace and to liberate. We look to Him as we carry out that “and” — the call to act, with an eternal perspective.

Our Passion

At Youth For Christ, our passion is to minister in the name of Jesus. We choose to walk the very same bridge He used; the “and” bridge combining Christian service with Christ’s sacrifice.
We are liberated by His forgiveness and propelled by His love, to continually declare mercy and truth. We are ministers of His grace, on campuses and in juvenile halls… in wide open spaces and on congested street corners… to the outcasts, the transparent, the terrified.
Our focus as a movement is on multiplying fruitful and sustainable Ministry Sites across the nation and around the world. We believe there are five essentials to establishing Ministry Sites.

Meet Our Staff

We are blessed to have a dedicated team of staff passionate about serving our local youth.

  • David Killian

    Executive Director
A graduate of Moody Bible Institute, David has a passion for empowering adults to share the gospel with students, developing lifelong followers of Jesus Christ in partnership with the local church. He joined YFC in 2011 and has the heart to challenge, serve, and encourage the staff as well as adult leaders to reach every student in Palm Beach County. While striving to expand the reach of YFC in this county, he continues to lead a Campus Life Middle School club, enjoying the face-to-face interaction with youth. David is married to Lindsey, and they have 3 children.
  • Kim Barrantes

    Ministry Director
    Parent Life/Girl Talk
Kim has been around Youth for Christ her entire life as her Father was a leader within YFC for 47 years! With 20+ years of ministry in Palm Beach County herself, she continues to desire that all youth we reach become lifelong followers of Jesus, whether they are middle schoolers throwing balls in a gym or teen moms sitting around the table with their babies. Kim especially enjoys empowering adult leaders as they develop relationships with the youth they are ministering to. Kim holds her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, is married to Jerry, and has 2 adult children. For relaxation, you’ll find them on a paddleboard or biking while camping at parks all across the US.
  • Walter Barrows

    Juvenile Justice
Walter is originally from Philadelphia, PA, and is a die-hard Philly sports fan. Walter’s life radically changed one night in West Palm Beach when street evangelists introduced him to Jesus. This transformation led to a passion for sharing the gospel. He has been part of the YFC family since 2013 and has lived in south Florida for 10+ years. Walter currently serves middle and high school age students through our JJM ministry. A fun fact about Walter is he’s the 2009 silver medal winner of the Tennessee State Fair’s Blue Bell ice cream eating contest.
  • Will Deal Jr

    City Life - Catalyst
Growing up in Lake Worth with 7 siblings and divorced parents, they struggled to make ends meet. “Between my mother, father, and grandmother, I was confused by the three different religions they each practiced. The division this created made me wonder, if this is what God is about, why even believe? How can anyone prove God really exists?” Consequently, alone and without purpose, Will started stealing, smoking marijuana, selling drugs, and drinking by age 13. After a close brush with the law, he became friends with a DJ and started hanging out with the hip hop community. When Will discovered Catalyst, he was impacted by the love of Christ through people who weren't judgmental or religious. He subsequently gave his life to Christ, filling the void he’d felt his entire life. The radical life change he experienced fuels Will as director of Catalyst, now extending the love of Christ to others in the Hip Hop community.
  • Leland Herring

    Campus Life Middle
Leland aka "LH" grew up in Haiti and Miami (before moving to Palm Beach County), instilling in him a love for diversity. As a result, he speaks English, Creole, and Spanish. He has been married to Melissa for over 25 years. They have 2 children, Will and Tyneisha… #ProLife. Leland has been on staff with Palm Beach County Youth for Christ for 22 + years. He directs Campus Life Clubs at Wellington Landings Middle & Crestwood Middle Schools, always seeking to share The Good News of Christ alone and raise lifelong Christ-following students. Leland’s motto in sharing The Good News with students is, “This life is temporary… the next one is forever. A personal relationship with Christ is everything.” Romans 5:8 is one of his favorite verses, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us.”
  • Mike James

    Finances
Mike is originally from Missouri, where he was known as the "tax man", managing a large district for H&R Block during the day and ministering to kids and teens on evenings and weekends. He joined the staff of Youth for Christ over 20 years ago to bring the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to public school students and their families. Mike currently serves as our Financial Director while leading Campus Life at Watson B Duncan Middle School. One of his favorite verses is Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." He is helping to raise his grandson, Gabriel, and enjoys keeping in contact with his former students as they grow into men and women following Christ and having children of their own. Mike also ministers to middle school boys at Family Church, and is a Military Chaplain and Chairman of the Board at the Community Health Center of West Palm Beach.
  • Ariana Alvarado

    Campus Life Middle
Ariana grew up in Greenacres, Florida where she now serves at two middle schools in her neighborhood: L.C. Swain Middle and Tradewinds Middle. Ariana started serving with Youth For Christ in 2016 through a friend’s testimony of coming to know Jesus through her middle school Campus Life club. God providentially led Ariana to work in a middle school after graduating college where she soon began serving as a YFC adult leader, then became a teacher sponsor, and in 2023 she resigned from teaching to take a step of faith towards full-time ministry with YFC. Her desire is for youth to find hope, purpose, identity, and love in Jesus Christ. Her heart is to share the gospel with teenagers, build relationships with families, and connect them to a local church so they can grow to be lifelong followers of Jesus. She likes to spend time exploring outdoors, traveling to new places, cruising to the beach, going out with family, and enjoying local restaurants with friends.
  • Jashubi-E Rivera

    Campus Life High School
Jashubi is married to Makenna, both Moody Bible Institute graduates. They have two boys and relocated from Chicago to South Florida in the summer of 2022 to join a church plant in West Palm Beach. After a year of trusting in God's call while enduring the difficulties that come from transitioning, Jashubi and his family experienced a breakthrough when he joined full time staff at Youth for Christ in the summer of 2023. Jashubi continues to trust in God as it remains a reminder that His saving grace will continue to extend to everyone including the youth Jashubi shares the gospel message with. Today, Jashubi is the Site Director of two Campus Life high schools and is passionate about telling the youth about their value in light of eternity.
  • Meg Sterrett

    Partner Engagement Director
Meg’s enthusiasm and passion are fueled by a desire “to see that every middle school-er be given the opportunity to become a life-long follower of Christ, and to grow in their faith”. Meg enjoys traveling, staying active and spending quality time with her husband Jim.
  • JJ Lewis

    Campus Life Middle
John(JJ) Lewis grew up in the inner city of West Palm Beach and feels called to make a difference in his own “backyard”. Early in life JJ dealt with a lot of pain and sorrow, leading him to resist the call God had on his life. Today, his passion for Christ drives him to see the youth in his community know Jesus as LORD and then pass it on to others, transforming lives and neighborhoods. JJ is married to Cassie and they have 4 children. When possible you’ll find him on the water fishing or grilling / smoking meat.
  • Marytheresa Paetow

    Office Manager
Marytheresa serves as our Office Manager. She is the first person you see when you arrive at our office, always wearing a welcoming smile.
  • Kalysta Vetter

    Campus Life Middle
Kalysta grew up in sunny South Florida where as a Middle School Student she met the Lord through the dedication of a mentor at her Youth Group. She now uses her testimony as an opportunity to reach Middle School Students in Palm Beach County. If she is not at the beach, you can find her at any coffee shop nearby or with her fluffy mountain dog.
  • Greg Monaco

    Former YFC Staff
Greg went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2024. He is survived by his wife Gayle; they have two children and four grandchildren. Greg joined the staff of Youth for Christ in 1974. He has faithfully served the Mission of YFC untill he passed away this year. He began his service in direct ministry to youth involved with the Juvenile Justice system, working with at-risk young people. Over the years he has functioned as the National Director for Youth Guidance / Juvenile Justice Ministries, the Executive Director of three local chapters, the Associate Regional Field Director of the Southern Region, and the National Field Director of the Great Lakes Region. He joined the PBC YFC team in 2022 in a part-time role as the Director of Corporate Advancement, focusing on strategic planning.
  • Sebastien Berrouet

    Campus Life Middle
Sebastien began as a volunteer and quickly fell in love with the mission of Youth for Christ, reaching students where they are. Combining the unique opportunity to share the gospel and engage in various sports and games with the students is something that is right down Sebastien's alley. He became a part time employee and is directing a ministry site at Osceola Creek middle school. He enjoys playing sports, spending time outdoors as well as plays the guitar; and often finds a way to combine the things he enjoys to connect with the students , especially playing some good basketball with the kids.

Youth For Christ Around The World

In the USA

Youth for Christ/USA has had a distinctive history of youth evangelism. In 1944 Billy Graham and Torrey Johnson held a Youth for Christ rally in Chicago. The ministry of YFC spread like wildfire across the USA. Today at thousands of community centers, high schools, middle schools, juvenile institutions, coffee shops, and local hangouts, YFC staff and volunteers meet with young people who need Jesus. For more about the national movement of Youth for Christ, visit www.yfc.org.

International

YFC/USA is part of a worldwide movement of Youth for Christ International. We are knit together with our common mission, vision, statement of faith, and passion to reach young people with the life changing message of Jesus Christ. However, YFC ministry doesn’t look the same in every country. For more about Youth for Christ International, visit www.yfci.org

“Youth for Christ came into being as a result of a conversation that Torrey Johnson and I had while fishing off the coast of Florida in late 1944. He had the vision and the plans in his mind of what could be done, and he asked if I could join with him and become the first associate and evangelist. It was my privilege to be the first full-time employee of Youth for Christ. The goal in those days was to reach not only young people, but also our servicemen who were on leave from wars. It grew rapidly, and thousands of young people came to Christ. After 60+ years, Youth for Christ continues to communicate the life changing message of Jesus Christ to our youth before it’s too late. We have been fortunate through the years to touch millions of lives and today, more than ever, we need to continue our quest to reach the lost youth around the world.
The harvest fields are riper, the grain is thicker, and the instruments that technology has provided are sharper. I see no reason why we could not touch the entire youth population of the world with the good news of the Gospel… let’s make that our goal!”
Billy Graham
“My association with Youth for Christ is deeply in my family’s history since my father was their first full-time employee. I have also seen personally the long-term affects of their ministry here in the United States and around the world. Today’s young person is in great peril and we desperately need organizations like Youth for Christ to bring them the message of Christ’s truth, love and hope.”
Anne Graham Lotz
“Thank God for Youth for Christ. Over sixty years of ministry shows faithfulness to God, loyalty to the Scripture, and compassion in ministry. The Kingdom of God is greater because of Youth for Christ.”
Josh McDowell
“Youth for Christ has been a faithful and bold ally of the Church. Our world needs Youth for Christ to be propelled into the future with the same devotion it has shown in the past.”
R.C. Sproul, President
Ligonier Ministries
“It was Youth for Christ that reached me in high school. I will ever be thankful for the caring adults who were praying and giving so that I might make the most important decision of my life.”
Roger Cross, past President
Youth for Christ/USA
“There is no doubt that Youth for Christ has been the most significant movement of its time. It has been an instrument in the hands of God to reach multiplied hundreds of thousands of young people for Christ. It has also been the source of implanting in those young people a great vision to keep the light shining and to reach others for Christ. Thousands upon thousands have enrolled in the service of Christ because of the initial challenge that they received in the outreach of Youth for Christ.”

Parent Life Stories

Juvenile Justice Ministry Palm Beach County Banner
The following text messages are from first-time adult volunteers at the jail:
“Just have to say, today was amazing! Let me know if I can come again on Wednesday.”
“That was awesome. I am in love with this ministry.”
“HUGE! Praise Jesus! Thank you!!”
“Thank you for today. I want paperwork! Today was incredible! I want more. Does Valentin have access to a bible in jail?”
Valentin is a gang member who made a decision to become a follower of Jesus after hearing the gospel. The adult volunteers were blown away by what God is doing through this ministry at Palm Beach Juvenile Correctional Center.
Brant, 16, is being released from jail in 21 days, after serving 9 months for strong-armed robbery. While incarcerated Brant attends our bible study and came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Released from jail and from his sin through Jesus (Romans 8:1), Brant is excited to work out his new faith walk and impact gang members with the truth of the gospel.
Anthony, a 14 year-old from Boynton Beach is locked up facing a double murder charge in a drug deal gone bad. The jail administrator asked Jimmy, our staff person, to go to his isolation cell and speak with him. While meeting and interacting with Anthony, Jimmy was able to share the Gospel with him and lead him in prayer as he embraced Jesus Christ as his Savior. Anthony faces a long and difficult road and we covet your prayers as Jimmy disciples him until he is sent to prison.

JJM is a ministry that reaches out to teens in tough situations.

Even though our first contact is in a variety of institutions, we are committed to long-term relationships that last long even after the teen has left the facility. Our focus is balanced ministry that emphasizes the spiritual, physical, mental and emotional aspects of life
Unlike most ministries, JJM meets teens in their world, when they are at their greatest time of need. We believe that we have been called to go and seek lost teens right where they are.

In Memory Of Peg Roman

  • Peg was a woman of clear commitments: first to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and secondly to her children, Tyler and Tavia.

These commitments were foundational in her life choices. Her love for the Lord caused her to love others well, evidenced by the way she cared for and served them. She consistently put others above herself.

Her love for her children opened her eyes to the needs of youth all around her. Her passion for young people to know God, understand his forgiveness, and live in joy anticipating life eternal drove her to step out of her comfort zone. She spent her last years immersed in the world of the hip hop community. Catalyst was born in West Palm Beach as a result of Peg’s faith, passion, and deep commitment.

Peg’s legacy will be found forever in Tyler and Tavia. Joining them as spiritual children are all the people, young and old, who have been impacted by Peg’s life.

We know she has enjoyed hearing her Heavenly Father’s greeting, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” We miss you, Peg.
City Life Palm Beach County Banner
One very vital part of our mission with Youth for Christ is to work "together with the local church" as we share Christ with students. Through church partnerships, we are able to increase our presence in the local communities in our county. The most recent partnership is with First Evangelical Lutheran Church to establish a dedicated facility within the heart of West Palm Beach, which will allow access 6 days a week to 2,500 sq ft of space to run programs focused on sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through arts, sports, music, as well as reaching teen moms with the support and hope that Christ offers.

City Life is working to add a basketball court, outdoor lights, signage, and more. If you would like to be a part of making this happen, click here!

We pray that this is just the start of reaching beyond the campus through the City Life ministry model, bringing the Gospel to the unreached teens in our local communities.
